Our last snow was immediately following Tyler's return in December. It seems that Tyler is a bit of a winter curse because whenever he is home we get very little snow. We have had several days that have been in the upper 30s which led to lots of melting in the area. Melting during the day with freezing temperatures at night creates lots and lots of ice. Everything here is super slippery, and it is no fun!
One neat thing that happens during the winter is an intense fog rolls in that leaves behind the most wonderful looking frost. The frost is called
horror hoar frost, and it makes everything look very winterized. I love, love the way the horror frost leaves everything looking as if it were just sprayed with white spray paint .. so magical.
That said, we would love some snow. The melting created a slushy, gray mess and the horror frost is now gone. Only snow will make our beautiful winter return. We have the cold .. now bring on the flakes!

Actually, it's one word: hoarfrost, as in:
hoar·frost (hôr frôst , -fr st , h r -). n. Frozen dew that forms a white coating on a surface. Also called white frost.
Loves ya both.

P.S.
You can also use it in a sentence, such as: Wake Forest's shooting was as cold as hoarfrost, resulting in a shellacking by the Maryland Terps!
Oh, and by the way, the pictures are beautiful!
We've always loved the winter snows in NJ but we came down here to escape them. What happened!! This winter we have had enough - already.
Great talking with Tyler this week.
Keep your snow to yourselves !!
Love to you both, Pop Pop and Mimi
